Truth Serums and a Feminist Alternative to The Walking Dead

We have a nerdy double header for you today! First, Niba brings on science writer Bri Barbu to discuss the actual science behind truth serums, where we’ve seen them in popular media, how they’re used, and whether they could or should work in the real world. Then Mariquita is back with one of her hallmark beautiful reviews, this time offering a feminist alternative to The Walking Dead or The Stand by Stephen King. It’s Severance by Ling Ma and if you haven’t read it, you’re in for a treat.

Renee Powers founded Feminist Book Club in 2018 to provide a space for intersectional feminists to learn, grow, and connect. When not reading or running the biz, you can find her drinking coffee and trying unsuccessfully to teach her retired racing greyhound how to fetch. Favorite genres: feminist thrillers, contemporary literary fiction, short stories, and anything that might be described as "irreverent"
