This season, we’re celebrating the literary icon and acclaimed Dominican-American author, poet, and essayist Julia Alvarez! With a career spanning decades and multiple bestsellers, Alvarez’s work often gives voice to issues of immigration, social justice, and cultural heritage, all of which remain relevant today. Her writing has garnered numerous awards and honors, and she has influenced the work of so many of the Latine authors we love today.
With the upcoming release of her latest novel, The Cemetery of Untold Stories, we thought there was no better time to celebrate Julia Alvarez’s brilliant work!
What’s inside:
- The Cemetery of Untold Stories: When celebrated writer Alma Cruz inherits a plot of land, she creates a graveyard for the manuscript drafts and revisions she has accumulated over the years. She wants her characters to rest in peace, but they have other ideas, and soon the cemetery becomes a mysterious sanctuary for their true narratives.
- How the García Girls Lost Their Accent: Alvarez’s debut novel traces the lives of four sisters who must flee their home in the Dominican Republic after their father’s role in an attempt to overthrow dictator Rafael Trujillo is discovered. Loosely based on her own family’s experience, this novel explores themes of assimilation and identity.
- In the Time of the Butterflies: This international bestselling historical novel tells the story of the Mirabal sisters, who bravely fought in the resistance against the oppressive Trujillo regime in the Dominican Republic. It is a story of love, courage, and justice during turbulent times, inspired by real events and has become a literary classic.
- EXCLUSIVE bookmark, custom-created by Dominican artist Fanesha Fabre: Save your spot while reading with a bookmark inspired by the cover art of The Cemetery of Untold Stories, created exclusively for this special edition box. Fanesha Fabre is a Brooklyn-based Dominican-born multimedia artist whose work celebrates the beauty and culture of Latinidad in NYC and beyond.
We’re also honored to host a Q&A with Julia Alvarez herself on April 23rd at 6:00pm CT (5:00pm PT / 7:00pm ET). Even if you don’t snag a box, you can still join us!

Not sure this is worth the $99. One hardback and two paperbacks and what I thought was going to include an actual handmade bookmark (not a paper bookmark based on the artists work). I hope the stories are good.
