This year, we’ve been exploring a new way to Read & Resist through our Towards Liberation series. This series weaves together author Q&As, lectures, and discussion groups, all centered on creating meaning and driving actionable change in the world.
In February and March, we took a deep dive into the organizing primer Let This Radicalize You by Kelly Hayes and Mariame Kaba. When we asked our community what book they wanted to explore next, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler was at the top of the list.
Octavia Butler has given us so many powerful works, but Parable of the Sower stands out as a prolific novel that deeply resonates with today’s world. Join us as we dive into this visionary text and explore how fiction can offer insights into collective action, resilience, and the power of shared ideas.
How can I join the online discussions?
Head to our online community and join the club! You have two options to join us:
- You can join Feminist Book Club as a virtual member for $12 a month** and get access to the discussion group AND our exclusive content, monthly book chats, silent reading hours, and more.
- To join us just for the discussion group for Parable of the Sower, you can do so for $15** for the duration of the discussion group (about two months).
In the online community you’ll have access to the virtual discussions (via Zoom), a space to write out your thoughts with co-conspirators, and a chance to connect with like-minded peers looking to make change in their communities.

What is the discussion schedule like?
Virtual discussions take place bi-weekly at 7pm CT (5PT/8ET) on the online community.
Dates include: April 23, May 7, and May 21.
How do I get a copy of Parable of the Sower?
Pre-order the book from us HERE! Order from bookshop.org, get an audiobook from Libro.FM, check it out from the library, or purchase it from your favorite local indie bookshop… just please don’t order it from Bezos.
Will there be any in-person meetings?
Yes! We will have bi-weekly meeting at Feminist Book Club HQ at the Coven SLP. These events will start off with a community reading hour from 5-7pm and we’ll break out into a discussion at 7pm. Feel free to bring whatever book you would like to read during community reading hour.
April 22nd & May 20th

Have any questions about the in-person meetings? Email Rah at rah@feministbookclub.com
Throughout the year, we will lead other discussion groups as well – sometimes returning to a book we’ve featured in the past and sometimes choosing one that would likely not end up as a monthly pick or in a special edition box. After all, just because something doesn’t line up neatly with a theme doesn’t mean it’s not worth discussing.
**Sliding scale is available! If you’re in a space where you want to join the discussion, but cost is an obstacle fill out the sliding scale form here.
