A message from our founder, Renee Powers:
When I founded Feminist Book Club in 2018, I had no idea where it would go. Truly, this whole experiment began because I noticed “feministbookclub.com” was available for purchase and I couldn’t understand why Emma Watson didn’t own it yet. One thing led to another and here we are almost 6 years later. We’ve grown and evolved and achieved extraordinary things together. And now it’s time for our next evolution.
This month is my last month as the sole leader of Feminist Book Club. Stepping into the role of Executive Director is Sally Mercedes! I’ll be showing Sally the ropes over the next few months but once she’s up and running, I will be demoted to podcast producer and contributor. The transition to becoming a worker-owned co-op should be finalized this summer, so there are lots of exciting changes ahead for this community! I wish I could share all there is to look forward to, but know that you’re all in the most capable, brilliant, heart-centered hands.
I’m so proud of the community we’ve built together and truly honored to hand it off to this team with Sally as Executive Director. Thank you all for granting me six years of trust, grace, and opportunities to learn as your FBC founder. I can’t wait to see what’s next for all of us.
A message from our Executive Director, Sally Mercedes
I truly could not be more excited to come on board as Executive Director at Feminist Book Club! When I started as a content contributor a couple of years ago, I was longing for a community that aligned with my values, where my voice mattered, and where discussing books and pop culture went right alongside politics and activism. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of taking on a few different roles within FBC, and it has only deepened my commitment to and love for who we are, what we stand for, our team, and all of you! Through my content, the readathons, Mighty Networks, and book discussions, I have gotten to engage with so many of you and am always left feeling nourished and awed at your brilliance and compassion. This really is such an awesome community.
As we continue our transition to a worker-owned co-op, I am pumped and hopeful for what’s yet to come. The world keeps turning and burning, and the need for spaces like this only increases — spaces where we get to learn, share, grow, sometimes stumble, and express ourselves fully, all while delighting in something we love: books!
Thanks to Renee for trusting me with this role and to the transition team for being so supportive. Let’s fucking go!
