If you’re looking for a festive read this holiday season, FBC members have got you covered! Below, a few members (myself included) share their favorite books to read around the holidays, as well as books they’re excited to read very soon. (If you’re not into reading seasonal books, there are some non-holiday recommendations in this post, too.)
Not included in this list, but something we’ll all be reading this month is The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec.
The Recommendations:
Nancy: “I tend towards cozy mysteries and rom coms this time of year. I just read The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer, which was super fun to read because it was a Chanukah rom com, with disability rep!”
Emily R.: “Revisiting classics always feels cozy around the holidays. This year I’m excited to dig into Jane Eyre.”
Stephanie K.: “A Christmas Carol is my favorite and I think this year I’m going to read The Humbug Murders by L.J. Oliver, which is an Ebenezer Scrooge mystery that also incorporates characters from other Charles Dickens books.”
Yasi A.: “This season I’m excited to read The Hookup Dilemma by Constance Gillam. It’s an adorable rom-com storyline about two people who are complete opposites trying to make their relationship work after a one-night stand. I love romantic novels around the holidays because it reminds me of Hallmark movies – cheesy but adorable!”
My recommendation: I would be remiss not to suggest that you try to pick up A Christmas Parranda by Andrea Beatriz Arango if you can find it. It is a queer, Puerto Rican retelling of A Christmas Carol and is so heartwarming. This will be the second year that I read it, and I cannot wait.
